Hello PC-Doctor, I have installed 2 sticks of Corsair memory of 2G each to upgrade my Dell XPS 720 to 4G, but it shows only 3070 RAM, is this a normal ridding, or have I made some mistake in the install?.Much thanks for your help. Dario

dario375,

If you are running XP this is a limitation of the OS, it will only use 3GB.  The last GB is still useful though as all your PCI info and shared video memory will be located there leaving the lower 3GB all for the OS.

It looks like the XPS 720's are typically preloaded with Vista Home Premium. To, expand on Fred's response, chances are you are running into the 3GB limitation of a 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium, or any 32-bit Windows OS.

You will need a 64-bit edition of the OS to fully utilize your new RAM upgrade. Personally, I recommend holding out until Windows 7. Its worth the wait vs an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Vista.
