hi,

hope you can help me.

I have a windows xp pc that keeps on looping(tries to load windows crashes and then reboots) when I turn it on.

So i ran pc doctor for dos that my friend gave to me from another drive.

It gave me an error as follows: error verifying sectors 149220047 - 149220174 : Bad Command.

Now my friend tells me that I need to replace the drive because of this error.

I'm not so sure if this is the case. I was hoping someone on here could tell me if I need to replace the drive or if a chkdsk(from windows recovery console) would be enough.

Thanks

Sagar

Go into the BIOS and check which SATA mode you are in. It sounds like you are in AHCI with no IMSM installed on the OS. Switch that setting to compatibility mode and reboot. You may find it works then.

sagarhshah,

What clarencepc said may help but if it is an AHCI issue it would usually fail to test at all not at sector 149 million.  Using PC-Doctor from different OEM machines may give you erroneous results.  Each OEM system has customizations for their particular hardware platform that may not translate well to a different machine.

If your system is licensed for PC-Doctor from the manufacturer you should go to their website and download the DOS version for your machine.  If it is not licensed, I’m sorry but I can’t help you.
