The steps you follow and in what order are really dependant on the type of problems the system is exhibiting, If you are certifying a newly built machine or just running preventative diagnostics.
We do not have a written “how to diagnose a computer with PC-Doctor” book, there are too many variables in what can go wrong with a system. PC-Doctor is a professional tool designed for use by professionals. Knowledge about PCs, their idiosyncrasies and common problems is invaluable.
All of that being said PC-Doctors tests are logically laid out in a way to test systems thoroughly and in the proper order. Go with the defaults, choosing all tests and you will be in good shape.
The two products, DOS and Windows perform similar but unique functions when it comes to diagnosing problems.
DOS – Tests the hardware directly with no intervening OS or drivers. This is valuable in narrowing down if the errors on a system are hardware or software problems. If a subsystem fails in windows tests but not in DOS its most likely a driver or windows configuration issue.
Windows – Tests the system as a whole, software, drivers and hardware. If all these pieces are not functioning properly the client will have problems. The Windows version will point these out.
Please read the DOS and Windows manuals that are included on the distribution disk. These will help you become familiar with the product and it’s many capabilities.
