For the past 15 days I have had error messages on my computer that seem to relate to a file in the My Dell - pcdrcui.exe and module kernelbase.dll.
I get an error screen and need to reboot when the error message happens.

The best I can tell is this is all related to the My Dell powered by PC Doctor.

I seem to have the latest version of My Dell - at least there is nothing telling me to upgrade.

I am on an XPS 8700 running Windows 7 Professional.

What should I do to get rid of this issue?

Thank you.

Hi cbconsult,

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with the My Dell software, it sounds as if your installation may have become corrupted. This may be a bit technical, so please take your time and follow the steps I have outlined below to remove your existing install:

In order to manually remove the My Dell software:

Hit the Windows and R keys at the same time.
    Type: CMD
Press ENTER (a command window should appear)
    Type: msiexec /x {0090A87C-3E0E-43D4-AA71-A71B06563A4A}
    Press ENTER
If a message is displayed stating that this command is only valid for installed products, then perform the next steps.

    Type: msiexec /x {F7A70D00-F283-45c8-B163-49EC365D7E27}
    Press ENTER

Once the Uninstall has completed or if an error occurs preventing the uninstall from completing, you can ensure a full cleanup by performing the following steps:

[XP ONLY]

    Hit the Windows key (only)
    Type %ALLUSERSPROFILE%
    Press ENTER
    Open the Application Data folder
    Delete the PCDr folder
Go back to the folder that contained Application Data
    Open the Start Menu folder
    Open the Programs folder
    Delete the My Dell folder
(On some systems this can be found under the Dell folder)

[Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8]

    Hit the Windows key (only)
    Type %PROGRAMDATA%
    Press ENTER
    Delete the PCDr folder
    Open the Microsoft folder
    Open the Windows folder
    Open the Start Menu folder
    Open the Programs folder
    Delete the My Dell folder
(On some systems this can be found under the Dell folder)

[ALL]

    Hit the Windows key (only)
    Type %APPDATA%
    Press ENTER
    Delete the PCDr folder

    Hit the Windows key (only)
    Type %PROGRAMFILES%
    Press ENTER
Delete the My Dell folder, if it exists

    Hit the Windows key (only)
    Type %TEMP%
    Press ENTER
Delete the contents of this folder.  (Note: Some files may be in use, but you can simply skip these.)

Hit the Windows and R keys at the same time.
    Type CMD
    Press ENTER
Type (or copy/paste) each of the following lines and press ENTER to run each one (Note: you may receive an error when running these commands if the uninstaller was already able to remove them):
        reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\PC-Doctor /f
        reg delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\PC-Doctor /f
        reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\C78A0900E0E34D34AA177AB16065A3A4 /f
        reg delete HKCR\Installer\Products\C78A0900E0E34D34AA177AB16065A3A4 /f
        schtasks /delete /tn PCDoctorBackgroundMonitorTask /f
        schtasks /delete /tn SystemToolsDailyTest /f
        schtasks /delete /tn PCDEventLauncher /f

Finally, if the uninstall in the first step above failed, you should now open the Control Panel.

[XP ONLY]

    Open Add/Remove programs
Select My Dell from the list
    Click the Uninstall button
You should be presented with the option to remove this item from the list since it is no longer installed.

[Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8]

    Open Program and Features
Select My Dell from the list
    Click the Uninstall button
You should be presented with the option to remove this item from the list since it is no longer installed.

Once that is completed, please download the latest version of the software from the link below:
http://content.dellsupportcenter.com/updates/aulauncher.exe

Please let me know if this resolves the issue or you have any additional questions.

Thank you Kris.

I tried both of the codes you referenced to use in the CMD window and neither would work.

But then I decided to go to the Control Panel and manually try and uninstall the My Dell program from the computer. I was able to uninstall it that way.

Then I used your link to get a new updated version of the My Dell and it installed.

Fingers crossed for no more error messages to be appearing about - pcdrcui.exe and module kernelbase.dll.

I guess if there are more similar errors, I could just delete the My Dell altogether and not re-install it at all. That would not be ideal, but it seems it would get rid of the problem file.

Thank you so much for your help with this.  I appreciate it.
