Hi I have a Dell xps running Windows 7, still under guarantee.  In the System History (System Changes), PC-Doctor is showing repeatedly that the Memory Chips are "Removed" and "Added".  Sometimes this happens 10 times a day; sometimes it goes 2 days without any. When i first noticed the notification I did remove the chips and re-seat them - in case there was a connection problem.  But the error still persists. I have run all the diagnostics in your software and others that Dell have recommended but to no avail.  Dell have instructed me to do a system restore (twice) and this has had no effect either - except losing me 10 hours and meaning I will have to restore all my third party programs and data!

Occasionally there are references to other hardware items being "Removed" and "Added"; such as Hard Drive and BD-Rom - none of which have been removed.

So, as Dell seem to have no idea what is causing this, I am asking you if this is something you have encountered before.  If so please advise if there is an answer.  I am getting really frustrated.

Regards

jjd

Hello jdd,

I am not exactly sure what could be causing this issue, so lets walk through some questions in hopes of root causing the issue.

What is the version of Dell Support Center on the system?
Is this the original version?
Where there updates performed to the system (hardware or software) prior to the start of this behavior?

Dear James

I am doing something wrong!  I have tried twice to respond with attachments but they were too large.  When I tried again without them I got an error message saying I had already made that post.  So I don't know if anything has been sent.  I have put two images of the history in my Picasa Drop-Box for 8 and 10 May 2012.  The problems started on the 10th.  There was no history on the 9th.  I noticed on the 10 May there was a new Service "gusvc".  Could that be relevant?

Will write again with the other information if this gets through.

Hello James,

Very strange indeed.  I am able to view the images, so I can see what is happening on your end, but unfortunately the images do not provide answers to the questions I posted earlier.  If you could please provide answers to the following, we can hopefully start root causing this issue:
What is the version of Dell Support Center on the system?
Is this the original version?
Where there updates performed to the system (hardware or software) prior to the start of this behavior?

In regards to gusvc, I cannot think of why a google update service would interfere with the system history, but that is not to say that it isn't  You can always try to disable the service on your system to see if it resolves the issue.

Thanks,
James_PCD

Dear James

I had listed all the changes in the posting that disappeared - unfortunately I hadn't kept a copy, so have had to go all through the history again.  Anyway please find the details of the updates to the Support Center attached.  So in order to answer your first question - it is not the original version supplied with the machine, but the problem started before the first update. I have noticed the more I check the history the greater the frequency of these erroneous entries.  At one stage I thought just running the program was causing it, but it doesn't do it every time.

I added some software in the 3 weeks before this started and there were some updates also. I have listed all these in the attached spreadsheet.

Hope this helps. I will disable gusvc to see if it has any effect.
