I am working on an HP Pavilion a500n with an Asus A7VBX-LA motherboard in it, running windows XP. The power supply was bad and was replaced. When booted up it will not boot past the HP Splash screen. If you select Setup (F1)or System Recovery (F10) nothing happens either.

I placed the PCI Post Card into the system and booted it up and came up with the following code:  "46". From what I can tell this is "46 - Check ROM copyright notice" I have not found very much information on this at all. What little I did find points towards the BIOS chip being bad which then means the MB is bad. Is this correct? How can I "Check ROM copyright"? Thanks for any help you can provide.

computertriage,

The BIOS codes are a little bit of a black art.  If the POST is hanging there the best course of action would be to look into the BIOS recovery mode, if any, available for that system.

This involves putting a BIOS BIN image on a USB attached floppy and setting a jumper.  The system will then start and load the BIOS file found on the floppy.
