I have PC-Doctor 6, it works fine, however, from time to time I need to troubleshoot USB ports and there is no USB loopback testing hardware in this KIT as well as in version 7.

Why you guys do not include this into your software package?

For example last week I had to test USB ports for HP laptop, some of them work some of them dont, I could not make sure which ones are defective..

Also please add testing for RIPPLE level for power supply. Broken power supplies often do not have problem with voltage level, they can indicate proper voltage if measured with voltmeter, but, due to defective capacitors they can have higher RIPPLE than allowed by ATX standards(not clear DC) and cause unstable systems or intermittent restarts..

gregplus,

Any standard USB flash device may be used to test these ports; you would need a 2.0 compliant device to test the high speed function.  Plug the flash drive into the ports you wish to test and off you go.  In SC7 Windows, only ports with devices in them will be tested. Script editor > System > USB ports is where to access the tests.

In the DOS product, you can modify the USBTEST.INI bitmask to test specific, any or all ports, instructions are in the file.  You can also use the interactive USB test to map external ports to the internal controller.

We appreciate your suggestion on the power supply testing. This has been something we have been looking at for some time.  It all boils down to cost, a quality unit that does a thorough job testing power supplies would cost more than the Service Center product itself.  We are strongly considering a separate / add on product to do this.

Testing DVD drives under DOS used to take long time before.. ?

gregplus,

Yes we do update the DOS version, SC7 has many improvements over SC6.  SC6 is also designed to be updatable in the field so that we can fix any problems or add features.
