Happy New Year to all!!!

I did a quick test with PDSC 6  and I got the following error with a laptop
Disk 0 Controller.......................PASSED
Disk 0 Random Verify....................
Read verify error (Device-Timeout) occurred at sector 29223890.
Disk 0 Random Verify                    FAILED  12/30/2009 22:07

Does it have something to do with the motherboard?

Compuitincolo,

Not likely, this indicates a DISK verify error at sector 29223890.  Your hard drive is having a bad day.  Rerun the tests to see if it is repeatable.

I certainly reran the test 3 times and still came up with the same error. However when I do the batch mode 7 Long HD test, no error messages are found. It also found a new error message when rerunning the quick test which is:
RTC Clock...............................
  RTC Accuracy Failed
RTC Clock                               FAILED  01/06/2010 00:02

Compuitincolo,

Laptops can sometimes be a little quirky in testing. If the long test passes I would then try to do a chkdsk /f on the system.  It could be just one bad sector, a chkdsk /f will mark it as bad.

The RTC test failure may be nothing to worry about depending on how it is implemented in the BIOS.  What is the make and model of this unit?  I'll check and see if this is the case.

It is a laptop gateway M460, by the way Does it matter if I do the chkdsk /f on windows xp or DOS?

Compuitincolo,

It will be done in DOS.  Even if you start it in Windows it will wait untill reboot to fire it off.  It will then run chkdsk before XP starts the next time.
