-Bear with me please. I'm working with an HP tx2000 tablet pc. It needed a recovery, so when you goto do the built in System Recovery, it only gets to 18%, and then gets stuck. So I'm using PC Doctor (I think version 6) to see if there's something wrong w/the hard drive.  At first I chose the Option 1 which I think is Quick Tests(don't have it in front of me right now). IIRC, everything passed OK. Then I moved on to the Hard Drive tests. I first did the Normal Hard Drive Tests (Option 7) and I had very similar results as the user in the following thread:
http://www.pcdoctor-community.com/forum/index.php?topic=170.0

-I tried looking through the BIOS (Phoenix BIOS) to try to "take it out of AHCI mode." But I never found a place to do so...So I moved on

-So then I tried some of the built in diagnostics in the BIOS. On the hard drive diagnostic, after it finished, it displayed "Test Status: #10008- Replace Hard Disk". It did this multiple times.

-I read in a few places that the hard drive indeed does need to be replaced. So then w/PC Doctor, I tried Option 6, the Quick Hard Drive Tests. And all of those results said "PASSED" beside them.

So I'm baffled and somewhat confused about the results. In your judgement, has the hard drive gone bad?

Thanks in advance!

ksgtarheel,

Without "taking it out of AHCI" mode the hard drive tests are just BIOS int 13 tests, these are not reliable.
In your situation The InRom tests are reporting the drive as bad and you can not recover.  I am pretty confident your drive is bad.

I would give HP tech support a ring and explain the situation.  The drive may still be under warranty.
