A person who provides McAfee support at one of the big cable companies has misinformed a number callers. We have discussed this with the cable company, and they are attempting to trace the calls back to the rep. The cable company has been very kind inapologizing to us for the trouble caused by the help desk and acknowledging that PC-Doctor is not the source of the problem.
If this is the source of your information, would you mind calling the cable company back and escalating to a manager? They already have a troubleticket open on this. That would be very helpful to the cable company, us, and others who are receiving bad information.
That said, fwilson brings up a good point. There are spyware and other products on the Internet that misuse the doctor name, e.g., pcdocpro.com, pcbugdoctor, etc. We work hard to prevent them from tarnishing our reputation as a supplier of hardware diagnostics to the world's biggest PC companies, but they still seem to pop up from time to time. If your system is infected with one of these, they can be very difficult to eliminate.
fwilson also brings up a good point about Spyware Doctor. This is not a PC-Doctor product; it was developed by PC Tools. This product has a very good reputation in the trade publications. However, could it be there is a conflict between Spyware Doctor and your McAfee software since they are both looking to eliminate malware?
Best,
Doug
