I have a failed test and think I need some help in diagnostics. This is the info on the screen of PC-Doctor 7.


32_Bit   LODSD, MOVSD, SCASD, STOSD Ops

CUP 2 (Apic ID 01H):

FS GS Failed

CPU 2 CPU Registers............FAILED  01-23-2009  06:31

CPU 2 CPU String Operation............................ (This froze the computer, I had to reboot).

Is this a bad CPU or how do I read this? I couldn't find and help or info on the website (maybe just don't know where it is at).

What make and model is this system / motherboard?  What type of CPUs ar in it?

I just built is last night, installed the programs and was running a stress test on the system.

MB= GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L
CPU= Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache
Memory= CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
HD= Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB
DVD= LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DH-20A4P-04
Card Reader= Koutech IO-RCM620 USB 2.0 3.5"/5.25" Card Reader
CPU Cooler= Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Video Card= XFX PVT84JYAJG GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2
PSU= RAIDMAX RX-380K 380W ATX12V Power Supply
OS= WinXP Pro OEM SP3 (updated)w/netframework 3.5

I think that just about covers it all. LOL

What type of case do you have ;), just kidding. Nice System.

I am assuming this error happens in the DOS tests.  What happens when you run the Windows CPU tests?

Is windows running normally with the two CPU's showing up and working in task manager?

I’m looking around to see if we have one of those Gigabyte boards in QA to attempt to duplicate the issue.

I may have a real stupid question so I will embarrass myself now to save the headache later. LOL

I didn't know that duo core CPU's would show up as 2 different CPU's in task manager. Never looked before. What do I look under, Performance? And if both cores are doing what they are suppose to will it be a seperate "bar" graph?

After it froze I had to reboot and ran the test/tests again and this time all is fine? I will list the steps I took to get to that point of "lockup" in case I found a bug.

1. Made Log Drive C:
2. Ran: Service Center 7/Utility/Benchmark
3. Ran: Available Tools/Maximum System Load
4. Ran: Available Tests/Quick Test (no loopback)

It showed a failure and then locked up. Here again is what it listed.

P.S. I will reboot to windows and look for the 2 CPU's in Task Manager and will run the tests again this time in windows to see what happens. ::)

OK, so I rebooted and this is what I found so far. Both CPU's do show up in the Task Manager.....Cool, learned something today, guess I get to go home now. Shucks already at home. LOL.

Running stress test in Window mode and things look very good. Both CPU's performing well and for the most part right with each other.

Everything passed the second time through in DOS and so far is passing with flying colors in Windows. Don't really know what happened. I have built many of these machines exactly like this one and flawless beauty with all of them.

Well at least it's working now.  Being a relatively new install, maybe something was running in the background that caused the 2nd CPU to be "busy" causing a time out and a failure.  This is pure conjecture and I have no real idea why this happened.  It could just as easily be blamed on sunspots or a passing comet.  ;)

Here is an update on this system.

Released CPU to customer it is being used for a CNC machine and when they loaded their autocad program it gave them errors and stopped the install.

They brought the CPU back to me and told me the problem they were having. I googled the problem and tried all of the "fixes" there, still same problem.

I ran all the tests and did back to back stress tests to get the thing to fail with service center 7. Passed all tests bravely!

Told customer the only thing I can think of at this time is a bad install of OS. So I reformated and reinstalled all programs again. Bingo! I won. Don't know what happened in the original install but this fixed the problem, I'm happy. Your product did a great job of keeping my hair in place, thanks! :D
