I have a t61 Lenovo laptop. Over the last 24 hours it has started to freeze in Outlook (2003 / Office XP) after a few minutes. Upon restart the computer says that the drives need to be checked. I tried upgrading to Outlook 2007 and found that the computer also locked up once Outlook was started.

I have run PC Doctor and the drive failed the Extended Smart Test. I have also received windows error messages (after crashes) that have implicated the video driver (at one point) and also my antivirus software (at another point).

My computer hardware is under warranty. How do I figure out if this is a hardware or Software problem?

TRS,

The drive smart error is a clue that it may be more than software.

Call Lenovo support and open a ticket.  If the unit must be sent or taken in for repair make sure you back up your data to an external drive.
