Enumerating Hard drives

sometimes when I test a machine use dos it will get the point where it says "enumerating hard drives" and not go any further, is there a fix for this that anyone knows of? happens mostly on hp laptops I test.

These laptops are probably AHCI. Service Center 6 is not compatible with AHCI. AHCI was a moving target when SC6 was released.  Service Center 7 however will work with AHCI units.

In the interim you could go into the BIOS and change it to IDE or compatible mode to test the drives, make sure you put the original settings back before attempting to boot windows.  It can make for some tense moments if you do not.
