??? Hi, I have HP m8013w desktop pc. My lightscribe capable DVD drive has been not working 100 % of the time and getting worse. For the first time it failed 5 times out of 6 read write tests. I am pretty sure the drive needs replaced but I do not understand how to use the error codes-1) DW 529-2W   (2) ab 10H  (3) 1105H
The read write is the only test it fails. Do I need to replace the drive?
Thank you for any advice and help
Keith

keithm,

You could try using different media.  Not all media is compatible with all drives, consult the HP website for a list of compatible RW media for your system.

If the media you are using is on the approved list and you want to use it as a burner then yes, you need to replace the drive.

The error codes are meaningful to the HP technical support personnel.  Since different lasers are used for reading and writing this test is telling you that it can’t read what it writes (kind of like me).

OK Fred, thank you for responding. I had tested with 2 different types of media both of which we have used since we purchased the computer. So we will replace it.
